Background

Pepe Jeans is an international fashion brand with an extensive distribution network and a significant B2B business serving multi-brand retailers, distributors, and other professional customers. Its SAP Commerce platform supported a key part of these commercial relationships and was integrated with SAP ERP and a range of corporate and external systems.

The technological evolution of SAP Commerce Cloud required the solution to move from the existing CCV1 architecture to the new CCV2 platform. This transition also involved upgrading SAP Commerce and replacing Data Hub, which supported a significant part of the integration landscape, with SAP BTP Integration Suite. The entire program had to be executed with minimal impact on ongoing operations.

Overview

ASPA participated in a modernization program structured around three closely coordinated workstreams: upgrading SAP Commerce from version 1805 to 2011, migrating the existing integrations from Data Hub to SAP BTP Integration Suite, and working with SAP on the subsequent migration of the platform from SAP Commerce Cloud V1 to CCV2.

The scope included adapting the codebase to the new version, rebuilding and deploying integration flows, configuring DEV, QUA, and PROD environments, supporting testing and UAT, planning the cutover, and providing support throughout go-live and hypercare.

Goals

The primary objective was to modernize the technology platform while preserving existing business processes and ensuring the continuity of a business-critical B2B solution for Pepe Jeans. The new architecture needed to retain current functionality, migrate integrations to a strategic SAP-supported technology, and prepare SAP Commerce to run on CCV2.

All of this had to be completed within a highly demanding timeframe, ahead of one of the company’s key annual sales campaigns, while coordinating the activities of Pepe Jeans, SAP, its support provider, and the ASPA team.

Challenge

The main challenge was to execute simultaneous changes across the application, integration, and infrastructure layers, with significant dependencies between them. The SAP Commerce upgrade and replacement of Data Hub were prerequisites for the move to CCV2, requiring close coordination of planning, code deliveries, testing, and cutover activities across several teams.

The integration layer added further complexity. It connected SAP Commerce with SAP ERP through critical processes involving products, variants, pricing, inventory, customers, sales agents, orders, order changes, and quotations. Each flow had to be rebuilt in BTP Integration Suite while preserving its existing behavior and maintaining operational stability.

Strategic Transformation

The project enabled Pepe Jeans to replace technology components that were no longer part of SAP’s future roadmap with a more modern and sustainable cloud architecture.

SAP Commerce moved to the new generation of SAP Commerce Cloud, while BTP Integration Suite replaced Data Hub as the integration layer. This allowed the company to preserve its existing B2B processes while moving to a platform aligned with SAP’s strategic technologies and supported by a more modern, scalable, and maintainable integration architecture.

Results

The modernization was completed within the committed timeframe and budget, making the new platform available before the planned sales campaign. The program successfully coordinated the upgrades, migrations, testing, UAT, cutover, and hypercare activities required to complete the transition while maintaining business continuity.

Critical SAP ERP integrations were rebuilt on BTP Integration Suite while preserving the required message formats and protocols, and were progressively deployed across development, quality, and production environments. The program concluded with the coordinated go-lives of SAP Commerce CCV2 and SAP BTP Integration Suite.

Long-term Value

Pepe Jeans gained a SAP Commerce platform aligned with SAP’s technology roadmap and an integration layer based on BTP Integration Suite, reducing its dependency on legacy components and simplifying future upgrades and enhancements.

For ASPA, the project demonstrates a particularly valuable capability in complex SAP CX environments: combining deep expertise in SAP Commerce, integration, and SAP ERP, while coordinating these domains with SAP and other providers to execute critical technology transformations without disrupting business operations.
