Background
Borgers was an international automotive supplier specializing in acoustic, thermal, and trim solutions for vehicles, with manufacturing operations across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. In 2023, the company was acquired and integrated into the Autoneum Group.
As part of its standardization strategy, Borgers had developed a corporate SAP ERP template intended to progressively replace the different systems used across its plants. Following an initial implementation that had highlighted opportunities to improve both the design of certain processes and their fit with real industrial operations, the company decided to significantly strengthen the local team for the next rollout, at its Spanish plant.
Overview
ASPA was selected as the local SAP team to support the Spanish rollout end to end. A team of senior consultants with deep automotive expertise worked alongside the global process owners and plant key users to validate the corporate template, identify gaps, and adapt processes to local operational and legal requirements.
The scope covered almost the entire industrial value chain — finance and controlling, procurement, planning and production, quality, sales, EDI, logistics, and warehousing — and included process validation and redesign, system preparation, training, data migration, end-to-end testing, cutover, and intensive go-live support.
Goals
The objective was to implement the corporate SAP template at the Spanish plant while ensuring that it robustly supported the plant’s actual business processes and local legal requirements, without compromising the level of standardization defined at group level.
At the same time, the project required particularly rigorous go-live preparation: trained users, correctly migrated data, integrated processes tested end to end, and a detailed cutover plan designed to minimize operational risk. The project even included formal criteria linked to achieving the committed go-live date.
Challenge
The main challenge was not simply to deploy a corporate template, but to validate its suitability against the real complexity of a large automotive manufacturing plant. The analysis carried out by our team identified processes that needed to be completed, simplified, or adapted in order to better support the plant’s production, logistics, and management requirements.
All of this had to be achieved within a global governance framework: any extensions or changes to the template had to be agreed with the central team. The project therefore required a combination of deep SAP and automotive process expertise, strong collaboration skills, and rigorous discipline across testing, data, training, and go-live preparation.
Strategic Transformation
The Spanish rollout evolved from being a straightforward replication of the existing model into an opportunity to mature the corporate template and validate it against real industrial processes. ASPA’s automotive expertise helped complete functionality, simplify selected processes, and propose solutions better aligned with both SAP standard capabilities and plant operations.
As the project progressed, many of these improvements were accepted by the global team and incorporated into the corporate template, later extending to other implementations. The Spanish plant therefore contributed not only to group-wide standardization, but also to improving the quality and reusability of the SAP model.
Results
After approximately one year of preparation and implementation, the Spanish plant went live on the planned date, with a high level of stability from the outset. ASPA’s intensive support during the first weeks helped users through the transition, resolved emerging needs quickly, and consolidated the new way of working.
The system provided integrated support across finance, controlling, procurement, planning, production, quality, sales, EDI, warehousing, and logistics. The success of the rollout and the improvements introduced during the project also helped strengthen the corporate template and enabled solutions to be reused at other plants within the group.
Long-term Value
The project demonstrated the value of combining a standardized global template with expert knowledge of local processes and industry requirements. Borgers achieved a robust implementation for its Spanish plant while, at the same time, strengthening the corporate template and preparing it for future rollouts.
For ASPA, the experience reflects one of the capabilities that has historically defined our work: senior teams that engage directly with business reality, challenge constructively when needed, and apply their SAP and industry expertise to make an implementation work in practice — not just on paper.
